Councils failing to inform small firms about business rate refunds. Are you missing out?

Over 90% of local authorities in England are failing to inform small firms that they could claim for a backdated refund under the Small Business Rate Relief scheme, according to a recent study by chartered surveyors Bankier Sloan. Firms based in a single property with a rateable value of less than £18,000 may be eligible for a refund, which can be backdated to April 2010. However, most of the 280 local authority websites reviewed as part of the study did not make this clear. Further research to track progress will be conducted in 2015.
