Reviews.
-------------- -------------------------

“Golightly possesses a distinctive musical voice”
Adrian Smith.

“It could well be that Golightly will come to be regarded as an English Shostakovich; there are numerous stylistic similarities to the Russian model: those driving motor rhythms and characteristic, slender wisps of solo themes; and above all the relentless on going energy, so often dark toned and uncompromising.”
Arthur Butterworth

“The great Russian composer, Mussorgsky, said, "Of greatest importance for a composer in creating music is the search for truth". It is this truth we hear when we perform David Golightly’s music”.
Alexander Govorov Conductor of the Soglasie Male Voice Choir of St Petersburg

“According to the great composer Mussorgsky, ‘Of greatest importance for a composer is his search for truth’; it is this truth we hear when we perform David Golightly’s music”
Alexander Govorov, Conductor of the Rouss-land Soglasie Choir of St Petersburg

“The Englishman with a Russian Soul”
Alexander Govorov, Conductor of the Rouss-land Soglasie Choir of St Petersburg

“Golightly’s symphony is a big, ostinato-driven, muscular piece, tonal and constructed out of the musical equivalent of big, solid blocks, or painted in broad brush-strokes of primary colours. The symphony is one of those big-boned, tonal, neo-romantic pieces which can be relied upon to get the blood pumping a little faster. The Seascapes are appealing orchestral fantasias in familiar style, also bold and colourful.”
Reviewer Jeff Joneikis Records International

Some 45 minutes long, the Symphony is very accessible in idiom, a "Classic FM work", no more "difficult" than say George Lloyd or William Alwyn (Golightly, like Alwyn, has composed film music), with traces of Shostakovich's influence. The filler is attractive, too: a lightish suite, each movement based on a different sea-shanty: Fire Down Below, Shenandoah and Rio Grande
Reviewer Hubert Culot The British Music Society

The Eye. (Chamber Opera)
“ His well-crafted score is taut and often very attractive”
Chris Aspin, Manchester Evening News.

‘The highlight of the production was undoubtedly the vibrant score”
Natalie Anglesey, Oldham Arts.

The St Petersburg Mass
“It is a work of great talent”
Alexander Polischuk, Conductor of the State Conservatoire Orchestra.

“Music of stunning orchestral virtuosity and emotional depth”
Victor Pleshak, Leading composer member of The Union of St Petersburg Composers.

“It is Music of the heart”
Professor Mussin, Head of Conducting St Petersburg Conservatoire.

1st Symphony.
__________ ________________________

The first symphony was composed over a period of four years in between the various distractions of teaching, arranging and orchestration, all very necessary to survive the demands of our modern society. The creation of the symphony has been difficult. Always there in the background, it has demanded my attention when tiredness and worldly demands have sapped my energy. Its completion has drained my energy and resources and eroded my self confidence. Yet the dream of it remains. Is my talent strong enough to reach out, whatever the style, whoever the audience? Will the listener see the vision woven into the very fabric of the music, and, more importantly, will that vision touch their own dreams?

The work is dedicated to, and inspired by, Steve Gibson, the players and staff of Middlesbrough Football Club. The work reflects the club’s history over the last five years with the scherzo portraying the optimism of the visits to Wembley, the slow moment reflecting the pain of defeat and the break-up of what could have been a great team. The final movement, with its march, tries to capture the atmosphere of a typical match day, with the excitement and the two halves of the game built into the structure of the music. There is even a section for the football pundits to analyse the day’s activities and a section for the arrival of the teams on the pitch. The large orchestral fanfares depicting the home team scoring.

However, the work is more than just a dedication to one man’s vision. It is a tribute to all the Steve Gibson's of this world where-ever they exist. The builders, the dreamers, the workers, the givers, who strive to better our existence, no matter the cost or the struggle. In a world full of avarice and greed, they still exist. Some make large visual contributions, some small gestures, all of equal value to the melting pot of humanity. The symphony was born out of a desire to redress the cruelty of fate with regards to the 1996-1997 season, but I hope it has become something more, a tribute to the quality of the individual.

Movement One “Resoluto Marcato”
“For those who strive knock hard on the door of fate”
Movement two “Scherzando Allegro Leggiero Delicato”
“Follow the path of the visionaries, their’s is the way of the light”
Movement Three “Espressivo Sostenuto”
“There are no defeats, only gifts of wisdom”
Movement four “Gioioso Maestoso”
“Seek ye the grail of life”

Three Sea Scapes.
“Fire Down Below”
“Shenandoah”
“Rio Grande”

Hi,

I sent you a private message that should have gone to your inbox on this site and not have been publicly viewable, so I'm not quite sure what happened to that. The main thing is you know what caused the issue so can get it resolved.

Hello,

Thanks

Hello,

You mention your account has been hacked into. With that in mind it could be that your email account was used for sending spam, or another account on that same server was. If this is the case it is possible that your email account or the email servers IP address has been blacklisted. I would have your provider check and confirm your address or server has not been blacklisted for spam. I assume the email that is causing the problem is the one on your website, so I'll just do a couple of very quick checks later on this afternoon to see if it has been obviously blacklisted. I'll add you as a friend so if it is a different email you can send me a private message with the right one. I'll let you know what I find out later on today, but I have to go out right now.

Hi David,

Thank you for getting in touch. This is not an area that I have any experience in. However I would like to introduce you to a friend of mine, John Adams from Indigo Multimedia - john.adams@indigomultimedia.com, 0191 209 2100 ext 34. John is a lapsed video artist himself and sit on the board of Locus Plus, (www.locusplus.org.uk/index2.html)
a contemporary arts organisation in Newcastle. He enjoys working with artists, and if he sees a benefit he does consider doing projects at a discount, in return for a sponsorship credit. He is a very open person, and I am sure that he can help if you give him a shout.

best wishes

Jane
