Robbed bank account! lol, it wasn't funny at the time.

A couple of years ago when I checked our bank account there was an amount of about £150 deducted in a transaction that I didn't recognise. It wasn't a fantastic amount but a sizeable chunk for us. We went into our local branch and they were very good. We had to fill out a form to say that we hadn't instigated this transaction and to give our permission for police involvement. Thankfully, the bank gave us back this amount but the incident really shocked me. I'm glad to say that nothing similar has ever happened to us since.

An internet friend said it could have happened because I didn't open a new browser page when I logged into my bank account online. That left the way open for some unscrupulous person to tap into our personal details. So whenever I check my bank details I now always close other pages and open a new one.

I'm not convinced that the theory put forward by your friend is right, I expect it was something else. The precaution you mention is unnecessary with any of today's browsers, although being a bit paranoid is often a good thing with security.

Yes, I'm not sure either Richard. I suppose there are all sorts of ways that personal details can be got.
